I'm a firm believer that beauty, like most things in life, should be as simple as possible. As a teenager, I asked my mother for Bobbi Brown’s book of teenage beauty and immediately fell in love with this makeup maven’s simple, motherly approach to beauty as aiming to be you but just a little better. Bobbi always advocated looking after your skin, rather than going for cakey foundation. So for me, looking beautiful has always revolved around having amazing skin.
These philosophies haven’t changed – but my face has! I’m going to be 27 at the end of the month (hakuna-matata and all that aka trying not to worry) so I’ve been thinking about protecting my skin from aging more seriously. Wellington based Tailor Skincare is one of my favorite brands and has been since I tried their mini’s earlier this year.
If you aren’t familiar, Tailor was founded in 2012 by New Plymouth Native Sara Quilter after she studied horticulture in California. They are a cruelty-free company which I also love. So I was very excited when Tailor’s CEO Sara Quilter announced that they were launching a further product to the line. You can read more about Sara in my interview with her earlier this year.
That product is Tailor Renew – the latest member of the Tailor whanau. Because Tailor has a range of different products to be ‘Tailor Made’ for your skin, the Renew is a little different because it suitable for all skin types. This pro-biotic serum increases skin cell regeneration and enhances your skin’s protective barrier against UV damage – which means that hopefully, it combats some of that sun damage that I inflicted on myself in my 20’s and teens.
I like this serum because I know it's been tested and is not likely to cause allergic reactions. There is so much weird stuff in some products (at home chemical peels anyone?). Tailor Renew is perfect if want something to add a bit extra to your regime, but want to stick to natural skincare.
The product also contains an anti-oxidant rich grape seed extract which defends the skin against UV damage.
I really loved the smell and feel of Renew – After having cleansed, I place it under my moisturizer, so it is close to my skin for maximum impact. I’ve so far been enjoying using the product which makes me feel like I’m adding that extra loving step to my morning routine.
