I like to find little secrets no-one else knows around Wellington, especially when it comes to beauty treatments.
It can be a challenge to find a service you like at an affordable price. And when you need to be on a budget it is even harder. I have bounced around many salons for things like waxing and the occasional manicure. However, I've recently discovered a new treatment and technician who I couldn't help but want to share with you - it is honestly THAT amazing.
Ever since noticing Resident Jaime Hayden's thick and long lashes when I met her last year, I've been curious - especially when she told me they were fake! She explained she had them done at WhipLash Lashes and since then I've been meaning to try it. Last weekend, I finally did. I found WhipLash on Instagram and DM'ed them for an appointment.
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are really simple. They glue a very very small lash to your own eyelashes. The false lash is very very little and applied by hand. You need to be a specialist technician to apply them but the prices can vary up to $120 per set! Jaime told me that she saw WhipLash Lash extensions, run out of the owners own home in Brooklyn. This keeps the prices down to between $60 for a new set and $50 for a touch-up - waaay more in my price range. I decided to book myself in for a wee treat (keep reading for YOUR little treat below.
What was the treatment like?
The process of getting there was a little tricky (pro tip: don't try and use google maps while driving the narrow back streets of Brooklyn) but once I finally made it (I also left a candle burning at home and had to turn around because I was half an hour late!!) I was able to relax in the side room of WhipLashes #girlbosses Sera's house.

Now don't go expecting a full day spa - this is a functional beauty session, not whale music time. While the room may be simple, Sera applies every eyelash with precision. Unfortunately, I had a wee bit of tearing up at the collagen pad under my eye, but apart from that everything went as smooth as silk. We chatted away and Sera is very friendly. If you just want a wee kip while she works her magic, Sera is happy with that too.
What was my first impression?
I immediately loved the end result when I saw my lashes. It looked exactly like me but with a bit of help. I want to look like the best version of me and a bit of extra oomph in my lashes is perfect.
One week on...
This may be my new addiction, kids. A week later, I love the way they look and am so relieved I don't have to bother applying mascara every single day. It just makes getting ready in the morning faster. I love that these lashes are so subtle and natural looking but everyone who knows me does a little double-take, telling me I look more awake! The only nuisance is that I am a bit of an eye-rubber so I need to catch myself before I start touching my eyes or the lashes won't last. I just gently pat them instead.
Eyelash extensions are SOO fun and I've had soo many compliments about them. They'll last around 3-4 weeks I'm told so I am already booked in for round two. I recommend these little babies hard - and WhipLash is a great place to go get flossed up with minimum fuss or damage to your wallet! Sera is really lovely and I think you should try her too so we are doing a little promo code.
