Want to show Wellington some love this Christmas? We do. Because Christmas sucks when times are hard.
Today I am sharing something a bit different with you all. We (former interviewee Craigy Lee of Wellington's Union Tattoo studio & I, Lucy of The Residents Blog) thought it would be a cool idea to team up with local charity, DCM, so we can auction off a series of custom-made limited edition prints, hand drawn by Craigy. Of the 25 prints, (one for auction on Trade Me because it's fancy and framed by the lovely The Workshop Picture Framers), every penny we raise will go to DCM to help them other Wellingtonians in need. But be quick because they will sell out fast!
DCM works at the tough end of things (I interviewed manager Matthew earlier this year). When people have no money, no food and no roof over their heads, they go to DCM.
Formerly known as Inner City Ministry and then Downtown Community Ministry, it was started by a group of Wellington churches in 1969 as a response to the needs of the rapidly changing inner city area of Wellington. They work with our city's most vulnerable to help them get back on their feet.
"Be in quick - they will sell out fast (only 24!!)"
This A4 30cm x 21 cm print of a watercolour colour illustration on high quality textured paper (it's very satisfyingly firm) depicts an open letterbox with a letter inside saying 'The Residents, Wellington' (a homage to this blog, if you will). Showing off the hills at sunset, it celebrates everything magic about this city.
(The back story to this was I was trying to think of something cool to do for my blogs 1 year anniversary, and Craig had an idea. He drew this print and got them copied. Now it's up to me to get some hustle on and raise the money.)
We have 24 unframed prints to sell for $20 each (plus $5 package and posting) (head to Trade Me or click here you want to bid on the framed version). If you choose to give more, please let us know and we will happily donate it. Craigy and I want to raise as much as possible - all proceeds, except package and postal, will go to DCM. It's our way of thanking Wellington for supporting us and sending the good vibes 'round.
Go on - treat yourself to a lovely print! Your money will not only secure you a beautiful original print celebrating the residents and landscape of Wellington but will help assist those in need. A great gift for your family or for a friend who is passionate about Wellington (or my or Craigy's work). ON SALE UNTIL THE SELL OUT!
