Each week, The Residents asks a Wellington local to describe their typical, capital day
7:00 - I wake up, have a shower, have breakfast, all that stuff. No, wait…
8:00 - …actually I was always late for school! So I wake up at 8:00, and I hop my scooter (I have a Vespa I used to get around town)…
8:30 - Get to school at 8:30 on the dot. Never early.
9:00 - Start class. Maybe it’s English so just fool around with mates because the teacher … and the teacher… nah , I don’t wanna bag anyone in this. Fool around with mates because the work doesn’t really matter.
10:30 - The next class - maybe we don’t go at all, and go to the Library. Mum knows about this by the way - she’s seen my results and absences and stuff. Go to the library, chill on the laptop and stuff.
11:20 - It’s interval. You go out, chill at the turf. We’d go out in this big group of like 20 boys, and we've been going out there at break since the turf was created. We’d be like “Yo, you goin’ to turf?” - blah, blah, and you’d always go there.
11:45 - I have a free period. I text my mate Jonny - he lives in Brooklyn too and has a job at Prefab (I got him the job) - and I’d be like “Yo, you going to Prefab?” - “Yeah, OK”. Maybe he skips his class. Maybe he doesn’t. We’d get some free coffee, get some lunch, stay there for like - a long, long time - get heaps of coffee.
1:30 - Go back to school - maybe go to Art. So I am in the Art room doing my design. Or go to history. Although I’d never got to History. Stay in the Art - just don’t leave. I’d spend a lot of my time there working on design.
3:30 - I might go work at Prefab if I had got the cleaning shift. That might involve scrubbing mats and everything like that.
6:00 - Finish work, go home.
6:30 - Go to the gym.
7:30 - Eat dinner. Watch something on Netfix. We've never had SKY - just channels 1, 2 and 3 - so you know what that’s like. Lately I’ve finally started watching ‘Mad Men’ because everyone has been telling me to watch it for years. But I’ve just started watching ‘Making a Murderer’. I’m up to the second episode. Plus, this morning, because I was really hungover, I decided to start watching ‘Freaks and Geeks’. It’s really good.
10:30 - I don’t have a minimum number of hours sleep I need. I always wake up tired, no matter what. That's pretty much it.
Surrealism at Te Papa is where it’s at this winter with these wonderful events…!
