Each week, The Residents asks a Wellington local to describe their typical, capital day
5:00 - Lucero normally wakes me up about 5am. We will lie in bed together with him being bubbly and cute and I will eventually cave and give him my phone so I can pretend to sleep while he watches Peppa Pig or Thomas the Tank Engine.
6:00 - We will get up and go the lounge where Lucero will run from the dishwasher and back, laughing and giggling and the proceed to drag me to the pantry to get some crackers. I will put the jug on, give him his medicine and then give him his vitamins and I will take mine. This morning I made a bizarre concoction of green smoothie. It had ingredients from the garden I sometimes use: Whitloof, Kale, Parsley. I added some frozen overripe tomatoes, some chipotle and some chilli and lemons.
7:00 - Remiro will usually join us around 7. At this time I am usually putting on the jug again for another coffee. Ramiro asks for his computer, which is his iPad. By this time we might have one iPad, two cell phones and a television, probably all playing cartoons.
I feed them from 6am to 8am and then have a shower. I jump in the shower . I then get the boys into the car and go to Moore Wilson’s.
8:30 - I pick up product I need for later that evening to work from Moore Wilson’s. I then try to get to Remmy's school in Berhampore. I take Lucero to music therapy and to have cuddles.
10:00 - We head to the Bresolin for some juice and for jam on toast. We’ll sit at the Bresolin until 10:30. Then we drive around the corner to the Wellington Chocolate Factory to pick up some cacao butter that goes in my mineral salts. The we drive from Leeds Street past Scopa to see if Dad’s there and do a wave. Then we drive up Taranaki Street up to Brooklyn. Hopefully he falls asleep in the car.
11:00 - 2:00 - Thankfully at 11o’clock when we get home he has fallen asleep in the car so I take everything down to the house, then go back and get him. We have a nap together from 11 - 1:10 and the wake up and are very happy to see each other. We go into the lounge and have some cuddles. Lucero starts watching my iPhone again. I chop fruit for Lucero, but he doesn’t feel like it so we make a smoothie instead.
2:00 - A friend of mind, Sarah, who is a wine rep came over and bought some product off me. Then Dad comes home. We sit down with Lucero’s behavioural specialist (he has a great beard!) and we have a meeting about how he is doing as a 3 year old.
2:55 - I quickly, I mean, I nicely shove Lucero into the car and Zip down the hill to get Remiro from School. We grab fish and chips from our favourite fish and chip shop in Brooklyn. We then zip home and are back by 4:15.
4:30 - I clean my office, which has gotten a bit out of hand. Dad is home so he feeds the boys. I make a My Little Pony with my son and talk to him about cutie badges (badges that go on ponies). I then make dinner for Lucero - I make Mexican spiced mince pita bread.
5:30 - Outside, I weed the garden. Then I zip down the hill to the Bresolin for an interview with lovely Lucy from The Residents (Ed: Thanks!!).
7:30 - I zip home about 7:30 in time to give the boys some kisses before they go to sleep. I might read a book before they go down. I will step outside, have a cup of tea, and clear the dining room in preparation for making another 40 odd bags of mineral soak I need to make and some antioxidant scrub.
11:00 - I end up in bed about 11 and watch a TV series to get me to sleep - before Lucero comes in at midnight to have a cuddle!
Surrealism at Te Papa is where it’s at this winter with these wonderful events…!
