Valentines, ‘Galentines’, a quiet night in doing nothing… whatever you call it, 14 February is a time to have an evening of selfishness in the name of love, and to treat oneself or someone else to a bit of pampering.
We tend to think of cliches when we use the word ‘pampering’; massages, chocolates or pedicures. But pampering doesn’t have to be extravagant. It could be simply cooking a meal for someone you love, adding thyme and oregano to your main course with gay abandon in the same way you might pepper them with kisses after polishing off your plate.
I have always wilted a bit at the prospect of Valentines Day. Alas, I was never one to be gifted a single cheesy red rose in high school, although I yearned for it (who’s idea was it to market to high-schoolers anyway?). I’ve had more Valentines Days alone that with someone, and I think it can be just as beneficial to take a hot bath or shower, buy some rich dark chocolate and turn on Netflix for one with the mind to self indulge on this hallowed and highly commercialised day.
Hence, if you are to find yourself yearning after wholly indulgent Valentines Day purchases on or around February 14th, I have some recent finds you’ll be sure to enjoy.
Personally, I’d like EVERYTHING!
Now, off we pop to the shops!
