When I started blogging, I knew very little about what I was doing. I started it because I had a passion for writing and I saw an opportunity to share stories about Wellington. But I knew nada about Facebook ads, PR or how to turn what I was doing into more of a side-hustle business, making money.
We all know how powerful a recommendation is a from someone we know. If a business says 'I'm great! I'm amazing!' you tend to roll your eyes. But if someone you know, trust, read and like says 'They're great - actually amazing' you'd sit up and take notice right? You trust that person because they have integrity in what they do. Wouldn't it be great if there was a workshop that explained why is is powerful and how trust works? *wink wink - keep reading*
I fell into blogging because I really enjoyed reading blogs myself and watching YouTube Videos. I was amazed when I did some research back in 2012 to find out no one in Wellington was really doing much in this area. It took another 3 years for me to build the courage to launch The Residents in the form it is today, but I am so glad I did. It has helped me meet the most amazing people, try the best food, experience the best of Wellington and even taken me on a press trip to Thailand!
But I didn't get there overnight - and there is definitely more to blogging behind the scenes than you know. Similarly, for businesses, a product doesn't get out there by magic, randomly falling into the hands of a celebrity. No. It's a matter of being strategic and making a plan to team up with bright, creative and clever folk who know their audience inside out. It can be very easy to go wrong and to pick the wrong brand or wrong blogger, who reduces your integrity. Similarly, what the heck is all this #ad business all about? Do you even have to disclose? Why should you?
There is no manual when it comes to business or success in the Blogosphere. It is reached via trial and error, and lots of hastags. But over the last 2 years I've researched blogging and working with brands lots, simply because alongside interviewing the residents of Wellington, I wanted to find ways to experience more of what the city has to offer. Working with brands has allowed me to do this, for which I am truly grateful (it also helped while Matt was studying!).
I've had loads of people ask me loads of questions about how blogging, brands and businesses even work together.
I wanted to answer all these questions the best I can - to show brands and bloggers (or Instagrammers, YouTubers, Videographers etc) how to do what they love, get the most from it, be valued, and create great content which delivers with integrity.
In Influencing with Integrity, I've worked with ColliderWgtn- the community connector housed in Biz Dojo - to co-design a one-day workshop covering the ins and outs of Influencer marketing; perfect for brands looking to engage an influencer; and for influencers looking to work with businesses.
We settled on Influencing With Integrity as a name because although I don't love when people call me an 'influencer', influence is what brands and businesses seek to demonstrate. With a legal background, I find the 'Wild West' of the online world exciting but sometimes confusing and stressful. I believe that it is important to be honest, real and authentic - and that long term this is what builds REAL trust and relationships.
Influencing with Integrity will cover:
- Conception and creation
- How to engage and manage the relationship
- PR 101
- Distribution channels and maximising content
- Long-term value and trends
Attendees will hear from experts such as:
- Danijela Unkovich - nutritionist, health and wellness blogger and ambassador for SKIN by Ecostore;
- Rebecca Reed - experienced communicator, journalist and owner of Arriba PR; and
- Ben Woodward - independent social media consultant; who through a mix of short presentations, panel discussions and case studies will guide attendees through everything from content creation to measuring success.
These guys really know their stuff and I'm so thrilled to have them along. They will help you understand what you REALLY need to know, to cut through all the noise when it comes to making great, compelling content and getting it out there.
Tickets are $60 which will buy you real value from the day - it just covers our costs. Four speakers, food and drink and loads of interacting and networking to boot! Plus there will be takeaways for you to use at home.
There are so many traps you probably never even knew about that can hold you back from reaching your best audience online. How do you capture the Zeigist? What makes a piece of great Instagram content? And what will you get if you have more Facebook or Instagram followers? What are brands looking for? What are audiences watching for? Plus, there's food and booze.
By limiting the tickets to 50 people, we will create plenty of opportunities to ask questions, share ideas and get as much deep value out of the day as possible. I think everyone who comes will really find a solution to the issues their facing. Just don't ask how to grow to 10,000 followers in 6 months because that's not what this workshop is about.
So thank you for reading and supporting my crazy-ass dreams. If you want to take it up to the next level, and get blogging or collaborating with people like me yourself, now is the time to learn how!
